Playing violent video games will usually only have adverse effects when you are easily affected by what you see. While playing violent video games does affect aggression in people, the effect is very, very small. “It’s not as if this is a light switch that either video games do or do not cause aggression. You have to think about the strength of that effect. Most people assume it has a really big effect, but what we find from research is it actually has a very tiny effect,” stated Professor Patrick Markey. "He stresses his view that video games are just another example of the violent images we are all subjected to every day, through movies or TV news. “This is not a black eye for video games, it’s a black eye for all the media that we’re exposed to and video games just happen to be one of them. I’m not saying being desensitized causes you to be more violent or anything along those lines, it just makes us not get more upset in general when we see violence.”" People who are extremely angry tend to be much more affected by playing violent video games than people who are not angry, and the opposite is true that people who are not angry are virtually unaffected by violent video games. So it’s both the person and, in essence, the situation. Therefore, while playing violent video games does affect aggression, it doesn't have as large of an impact on aggression as what it is portrayed to have.
Why, if you don't mind me asking, does it seem that video games take more flak than movies and tv series which are just as violent? To me it just seems highly unfair to video games in general when most of the media is against them.
